Products so great they must be killed
My favorite thing about startup acquisitions is the pretense. ![]()
Everything is great they say. This will be better for everyone! ![]()
Then they kill the product being acquired. Better yet: they explicitly say up front that they have no interest in keeping it around. ![]()
The product was so great that it has to go away. ![]()
Most of these acquisitions are just glorified hirings. ![]()
I had a startup and it failed so I know that moment of desparation. Torward the end there were some odd acqu-hire overtures thrown our way. It was too depressing for me to consider the pat on the back and commit to 3 or 4 years at a company I didn't want to work for. ![]()
We had failed. That was fact. A bullshit acquisition wasn't going to change that. ![]()
